Unique:
The Junior League movement was formed with the idea that women would join to improve their communities and become trained volunteers. It was then expected that each woman would take that training and continue improving her community. Training is part of everything we do, from formal trainings at meetings to experiencial training on committees. Click here to see our training guide. Impact:
The women of Junior League of Saint Paul have used their training to touch lives from all parts of our community. We have educated new parents on the dangers of shaken baby syndrome, helped Hmong women earn a living by selling their unique crafts, and improved the education of children by creating the Omnibus curriculum for gifted children and through our Bucket Brigade, which brought our members into schools to work one-on-one with students who were challenged.
Success:
Over the past nine decades, the Junior League of Saint Paul has trained literally thousands of women who have become leaders, and have helped build the strong nonprofit community we enjoy today in Minnesota. It is by design that many trained JLSP members move on to serve on a great variety and number of nonprofit boards and foundations. For example, our members have been the first females to head the Wilder Foundation, St. Paul Rotary and United Ways of both Saint Paul and Stillwater, and the very first president of the MN Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. We also lead smaller organizations that are so vital to the fabric of our community – our school PTA’s, institutions of faith and local community councils. In 2006-2007, we donated 13,214 volunteer hours to Saint Paul and the East Metro community.
