President's Message

Welcome to the website of the Junior League of Saint Paul!

"Never believe that a few caring people can't change the world. For, indeed, that's all who ever have." Margaret Mead

I joined the Junior League in June of 2008 on the recommendation of my mother, a former Junior League of Saint Paul member. She suggested I join as I was looking for a way to volunteer in the community, but wanted some flexibility in the time commitment because I was in graduate school and working full time. If I could have pressed fast forward then to see myself today, I never would have imagined that I'd have found so much more than a volunteer opportunity. I have found dear friends, become so passionate about the value of the League as a training organization, and grown so much from the practical experience I gained through my involvement.

We are positioned at an ideal time for measured change within the Junior League of Saint Paul. As we near our Centennial celebration, it is a time for us to reflect on the importance of our roots as an organization that develops the potential of women, promotes voluntarism, and improves communities. And, at the same time, we need to consider the ways in which we must evolve to continue to be relevant in community leadership for the next 100 years.

True to our roots, over the next year we will challenge the status quo when we research and implement new programming for our Healthy Bodies, Healthy Brains initiative.  We will also engage in a dialog regarding AJLI's new model for a separated governing board and a management team. With either of these initiatives we can go through the motions of change or we can come from a place of creativity and motivation that energizes our organization and the community in which we work.

It is from here that the theme for the 2015-2016 League year originates.

I am honored to be here tonight with so many of you who have gone through this experience before me and all the active members who have entrusted me with the responsibility to lead the League over the next year. Thank you for your trust. Together we will Inspire Change within our League and within the Saint Paul community.

Warmest regards,

Jill Skogheim

JLSP President, 2015-2017
