Junior Chef Program

Our Junior Chef initiative was another innovative way to serve the children and families who struggle with food insecurity throughout the year.  In partnership with Dayton’s Bluff Rec Center, Big Brothers Big Sisters and US Foods, the JLSP provided nutritional cooking classes for children and teens in need.  The classes encouraged the children to improve their cooking skills at home, and take pride in the food they cook for their families. Each student was sent home with a recipe book that features a variety of recipes, being sure to include foods typically found in bags of groceries from food shelves and other distribution resources. It also included sanitation tips, a measuring conversion chart, and information about spices.  Additionally, each student was sent home with a bag of groceries featuring ingredients from the recipe books.
