Our Junior Chef initiative is another innovative way to serve the children and families who struggle with food insecurity throughout the year. In partnership with Dayton’s Bluff Rec Center, Big Brothers Big Sisters and US Foods, the JLSP provides nutritional cooking classes for children and teens in need. The classes encourage the children to improve their cooking skills at home, and take pride in the food they cook for their families. Each student is sent home with a recipe book that features a variety of recipes, being sure to include foods typically found in bags of groceries from food shelves and other distribution resources. It also includes sanitation tips, a measuring conversion chart, and information about spices. Additionally, each student is sent home with a bag of groceries featuring ingredients from the recipe books.
