New Member Experience
New Members of the Junior League of Saint Paul participate in a year-long orientation program before becoming Active Members of the League. Our orientation program is designed to introduce you to the League, its history, procedures and community outreach programs. It will also give you the opportunity to get to know other League Members. Orientation is held in the fall and spring of each year.
Volunteer Opportunities That Have an Impact
Throughout your first year you’ll have numerous opportunities to make an impact in our community by participating in our community outreach programs such as St. Paul Plays and Library Kids. As part of these programs you’ll be working with caregivers and children to help promote the building of bonds through reading and play and educate the community about child abuse prevention. In addition, fundraisers are also a critical component to our success. During your first year you’ll be invited to help us raise funds through our annual Next-to-New Sale and ASID Showcase Home.
Plan and Organize the Kids in the Kitchen Community Service Project
A national initiative of our parent organization, the Association of Junior Leagues International, is Kids in the Kitchen. Kids in the Kitchen empowers youth by teaching them to make healthy lifestyle choices and help reverse the growth of childhood obesity and its associated health issues. Each year our New Members work together to plan and execute community events that achieve the goals of the program.
Meet Other Dynamic and Interesting Women
Through your first year we invite you to participate in a variety of social activities to better get to know other New and Active League Members providing you with great opportunities to network and build life-long friendships.
Hands-On Training and Continuing Education
Training volunteers has been a cornerstone of the Junior League since its founding, and continues to set us apart today. You’ll begin your training with the Junior League by participating in the Kids in the Kitchen service project allowing you to get hands on experience addressing a community issue. JLSP also provides training opportunities through our monthly General Membership meetings where we invite community leaders to address the League about issues affecting our community.
Peer Mentoring
Upon joining JLSP you will be paired with a current Active Member who will act as your mentor and advisor throughout the year. Your advisor is your first line contact to learn more about the League, answer any questions you may have and provide guidance throughout your first year.
The requirements for first year Members are:
- Pay annual (June 1- May 30) Member dues of $154
- Attend New Member orientation trainings
- Attend a minimum of three monthly General Membership Meetings
- Attend New Member socials to build relationships with other New and Active League Members
